Recently, I visited an Iekei ramen shop in Sendai. While I won’t reveal the shop’s name here, you can find more details on their official Twitter account: @densuke0719.
Fully Customizable Ramen
This shop allows you to customize your ramen to suit your preferences, including the firmness of the noodles, the richness of the soup, and the amount of oil. I went with firm noodles, light soup, and less oil, which I found to be the perfect balance. The soup was rich yet surprisingly easy to drink—an impressive harmony of flavors.
High-Quality Toppings
The toppings here were another standout feature. They offered standard options like spicy bean paste and sesame seeds, but what really caught my attention was their approach to ginger. Unlike other ramen shops, where ginger is usually left on the table, this shop keeps it refrigerated. If you’d like to add ginger, you simply ask the staff.
The ginger provided wasn’t the typical canned variety—it was freshly grated and had a natural, vibrant flavor. It seemed to have little to no preservatives, which made it incredibly refreshing and a great addition to the ramen. While I can’t confirm the lack of preservatives, it certainly tasted far superior to the ginger found at other Iekei ramen shops.
Freshly Chopped Onions
Another topping I appreciated was the chopped onions. These were served fresh and crisp, adding a delightful texture and a robust onion flavor to the ramen. They were undoubtedly a step above the toppings I’ve encountered elsewhere.
My Verdict
Having tried many Iekei ramen shops, I can confidently say this one stands out for its unique flavors and attention to detail. It ranks among the best Iekei ramen I’ve ever had. If you’re in Sendai and looking for a delicious bowl of ramen, this shop is an excellent choice worth trying.
