This time, we visited Yumean Shokudo, a family-friendly Japanese restaurant, and enjoyed a wide range of dishes. With a menu rooted in traditional Japanese flavors but adapted to suit families, it offered something satisfying for both adults and children. Here’s a detailed look at each dish we ordered.
🍱 Seasonal Set: Summer Setouchi Gozen
This seasonal gozen (set meal) comes beautifully presented with tempura, side dishes, chilled soba, and a shirasu rice bowl.
The highlight was the shirasu (whitebait) rice bowl topped with a rich egg yolk. The silky yolk blended perfectly with the salty shirasu, fresh ginger, and scallions, creating a balanced and flavorful bite.
The tempura was crisp and light, avoiding any heavy greasiness, and paired nicely with the refreshing cold soba.
🍲 Agedashi Tofu
This dish stood out for its delicate balance. The tofu was golden and crispy on the outside while remaining fluffy inside.
Topped with grated daikon, scallions, and nori, and soaked in savory dashi-based broth, it offered a refreshing contrast and kept the flavors light and comforting.
🍡 Tsukune Skewers with Egg Yolk (2 pieces)
The skewers were smoky, juicy, and coated with a sweet-savory sauce.
Dipping them into the raw egg yolk elevated the dish, adding richness and depth. This was a dish that delivered izakaya-style enjoyment in a casual family restaurant setting.
👧 Kids’ Udon Set
The children’s set came with udon, fried chicken, fries, and a shrimp tempura, all served on a colorful Anpanman-themed plate.
The udon broth was mild and easy to eat, perfect for young diners. The crispy fried items and fun presentation made this a hit for kids, balancing nutrition and enjoyment.
🥒 Side Dishes
- Fresh Pickled Eggplant: Refreshing and juicy, this dish added a cool touch, perfect for summer.
- Small Seasonal Dishes: Each complemented the main meals well, adding variety and keeping the dining pace enjoyable.
